PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has declared his total support for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict as a way of finding a resolution to the Middle East crisis in a bid to end the ongoing dispute there.
Over the last 50 years, the Israeli's and Palestinians have been involved in a bloody conflict and the idea of having two independent nations state side by side has been mooted as a way forward. However, the US and Israel have repeatedly vetoed such plans but the Palestinians have kept up their campaign for an independent homeland. Currently on a tour of the Middle East, President Buhari met with the Emir of Qatar Tamim Bin Hammad Al-Thani, yesterday, where he pledged Nigeria's commitment to a two-state solution. President Buhari’s stance on the Israeli-Palestine conflict is similar with that of most countries, including the European Union and Qatar is one of the major backers of Palestine. President Buhari said: “I want to assure you that we will stand side by side with you, until our brothers and sisters in Palestine achieve their desired objectives. Our support for various Security Council resolutions restoring and respecting 1967 boundaries with Jerusalem as capital of Palestine is firm and unshaken.” At the meeting, President Buhari also declared as totally unacceptable, the huge drop in crude oil prices which has seen international oil prices drop to around $30 a barrel from over $100 a barrel last. In Doha, he emphasised the need for Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) and non- members to cooperate and find a common ground to stabilise crude oil prices.
