Imo North Senate Re-Run: Uwajumogu Pledges New Deal For Okigwe Youths

As the people of Imo North senatorial zone of the state prepare for the forthcoming postponed senatorial election in the zone, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the poll, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, has dangled a proposal of a new deal before the youths of Okigwe zone, if he wins the forthcoming senate election.

This is even as he restated his readiness towards making the empowerment and development of the youths of the zone his topmost priority, if elected to represent the zone at the red chambers of the National Assembly.


In the new deal, both the senator and the youths, would agree on what is suitable for the development of the youths of the area, in terms of political appointments, empowerments programs, direct employment and other kinds of support for the youths, Also a quarterly meeting between the senator and the youths, where issues affecting the youths will be resolved, is also part of the deal that would make the new era, cordial and truly rewarding for the youths.

Disclosing this during an interactive session with youth leaders and hundreds of youths in the zone, the APC candidate, Rt. Hon Benjamin Uwajumogu, said being a youth; his candidacy will end the era of youth exploitation in politics and as well, break the jinx that youths do not go beyond being used as thugs, election riggers and killers by politicians.

‘’my message to you is that we can become all we choose to be with hard work and living above board. I will consider myself a failure in the senate, if I do not beat my Record in the State Assembly, where I directly appointed over 400 youths, of which I paid some with my personal earnings. I will also strive hard to produce several other Ben Uwajumogu from amongst the youths. This is your project. There is no other person who can protect your interest better in the next three years and some months than me’’ he said.

Speaking to a huge crowd of Okigwe youths, at his Ihitte-Uboma country home, Uwajumogu, who broke the jinx of siting of higher institutions of learning in the zone by attracting to the zone, three major higher institutions of higher learning, namely, the Imo college of education Ihitte-Uboma, Imo polyphonic ,Ehime Mbano and the catholic university sited at Onuimo, told the youths that a new deal, which would positively affect their welfare and progress was in the offing, if they elect him as their senator.

He said: ‘’ better days are coming, my word is my bond. We will put a lot of measures in place, in other to morally and physically empower and develop the youths. I will engage with different federal ministries, agencies and parasternal, whose leaders are members my political party, to effectively curb the challenges of youth unemployment that is confronting our region.

‘’We will take advantage of various federal government initiated youth empowerment programs, like the over N200billion Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Loan Scheme and Graduate Internship programs to create jobs and also to reduce poverty amongst the youths.’’

While maintaining that his administration, if elected, will train youths in various skill acquisition programs, provide soft loans and empowerment opportunities for the youths to be gainfully employed, expressed his commitment to broaden his scholarship program to accommodate both exceptional and indigent students, with a view to deepening the core values of societal development in the youths as future of the tomorrow.
